Hi there! My name’s Aaron, and I’m new to the game. What game exactly?

….Still working on that part.

I’m currently working a retail gig while I’m making my way through school, but I’d like to change that. I know that I have the ability to, as other freelancers put it, “Put words together into sentences”,  and after learning more about this whole freelancing thing, I’ve decided it was worth a shot!

However, it’s not as easy as many freelancers make it sound. It seems like the best way to start raking in the big bucks is to find a niche that I’m good at. However, in order to get those niche jobs, you need writing samples from that niche…but those samples need to be published, not just something that you’ve written out. So it’s back to the “need experience to get a job…” circular argument.

So now I’m looking into content mills, just to get content published. I’m studying up on how to write Search Engine Optimization (SEO) articles in order to start landing some of those gigs. But then, suddenly, every other article I’m reading is telling me that writing for content mills is the worst possible decision I can make in my life! Occasionally, you’ll find someone who says “Nah, it sucks, but you can make it work”, but those are few and far between.

So basically, I’m pretty much totally lost. I’d ultimately like to get into technical writing…at least, I think I’d like to get into technical writing…we’ll have to see.

Regardless, I’m going to try and work on this blog more frequently. If nobody ever sees it, so be it. At least I’m getting experience in blog writing, and that’s gotta count for something!
